Six Items School Leaders Should Take in Preparing for Potential Immigration Enforcement
- Establish a policy or protocol on how to engage with ICE agents on school property - or check with your state to see if it provides guidance.
- Provide training and information to all staff on the following:
- Provide the delegation of parental responsibilities paperwork for families to complete in offices if they wish.
- Provide the detained or deported handbook to families with concerns.
- Provide locations of free notary services in the community.
- Build relationships with community-based organizations to provide support to students who may be impacted by increased deportations. Provide contact information to staff and train them to communicate with these entities if they hear of children who have been displaced due to parental removal.
