Shifting Our Language and Expectations to Student Ownership

Session Sponsored by NIET | National Institute for Excellence in Teaching

In this session, participants will articulate how student ownership is a difference maker in maximizing student outcomes and examine how levels of student engagement impact a student's role in the classroom. Participants will also plan for how to transition from engagement to ownership and examine content knowledge look-for tools in order to identify opportunities to build student ownership.

“The NIET structure and coaching are directly connected to our success. We are better, and we are now internalizing all those coaching moments and using them with each other.”
 – Tammy Woolbright, Supervisor of Instruction (pre-K-8) Jackson County Schools, TN

“I wish I knew about NIET in my first year as principal. Our work with NIET has resulted in an instructional culture that is more focused, reflective and purpose-driven. Teachers are delivering instruction with more clarity, depth, and enjoyment!”
 - Hayward Jean, Elementary Principal, Orangeburg, S.C.

“NIET’s framework is a game-changer for our district. It confirms that success is achieved when educators are trained to adapt their teaching methods to reach children regardless of nationality, socioeconomic background, learning disabilities, and personal challenges. NIET has empowered our educators to give their very best and be a catalyst for students to do their best.”
 – Patrick W. Mapes, Superintendent, Perry Township Schools, IN
