Agenda Includes:

School Safety: Marshall County High School Before, During and After the tragic event of January 23, 2018
Former Marshall County High School Principal, Patricia Greer will discuss the morning of January 23rd, 2018 when a student opened fire in the school’s commons area killing two fellow classmates and injuring 14 others. She will also discuss the systems and processes that were in place as well as the new safety measures that have been enacted since this event and those that continue today to provide a safe, secure learning environment for all.

Following Ms. Greer, you will hear from GRREC response team member Linda Tyree (a member of the team that served at Marshall County). She will discuss best practices when a district or school experiences the death or serious injury of students or staff members and how a trauma informed approach can support all stakeholders (students, staff, and the community) during a tragic event. 

Closing out the morning, you will:

  • Advocacy updates (Coalition to Sustain the Education Profession, 2023 Session, Principal for a Day, and Political Action Committee)
  • Enjoy a delicious lunch
  • Network with colleagues from your Barren River Region
