February 24, 2023: Building supportive environments in schools through sense of belonging and cultural identity.
This session will discuss sense of belonging, students ‘cultural identity, the impact on students, and tips/tools to increase sense of belonging. 

Presenter Dr. Vanessa McPhail has worked in the field of education for 17 years in a variety of roles, including teacher, resource teacher, and administrative intern. She currently serves Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) as the Community Affairs Specialist in the Diversity, Equity and Poverty (DEP) Department.

March 2, 2023: A More Inclusive Communities: The Emotional Use of Words
This webinar will help administrators better understand challenges of transgender and non-binary students and their families. Participants will leave this session with knowledge of best practice regarding pronoun usage in the classroom and helpful strategies to create more inclusive school communities.

Presenter Lindsay Mattingly, Fayette Co. Schools has been an advocate and organizer for many communities over the last 20 years of her career. As a graduate from the University of Kentucky Hispanic Studies program, she is bilingual in English and Spanish and has worked extensively with Lexington’s immigrant and refugee communities. For 11 years, she was the Multicultural Liaison for the Lexington Public Library where she created educational programming around many topics, including LGBTQ+ issues. She created a downtown Queer History walking tour and offered several LGBTQ-affirming family story times.
