Program Highlights

  1. Working lunch will be provided at all in-person convenings.
  2. Each in-person agenda includes team/individual work time and progress reporting.
  3. Participants will be invited to share experiences at the July 2022 or 2023 KASA Annual Leadership Institute in a format to be determined.

The Leadership Challenge®

As a key element of the KELA curriculum, participants will experience the initial Leadership Challenge® two-day training led by KASA staff. Based on extensive research by Kouzes & Posner, The Leadership Challenge® establishes five core practices and thirty (30) specific behaviors demonstrated by exemplary leaders. In addition, each KELA cohort member will be given access to complete a 360° Leadership Profile Inventory® (LPI).  Participation in The Leadership Challenge® training comes at no additional cost to participants.

Problem of Practice

An important role of the school superintendent is the identification of solutions for the most basic of educational needs for his/her students. In one of the most unique leadership readiness opportunities made available in programs of this nature, KELA members will engage in an executive level literacy-based Problem of Practice initiative, customized especially for this program by Scholastic, Inc.

KELA participants will work directly with Michael Haggen, Scholastic’s Senior Vice-President and Chief Academic Officer, who will lead the group through a hands-on data collection, action planning, and implementation effort, with a highly-anticipated outcome of improving student literacy in your school district.

Anyone seeking the superintendency, coming from any leadership experience background, will benefit from working within the Problem of Practice framework, which is applicable to any significant issue facing a school district.
