Employee Discipline in an Education Environment

Employee Discipline in an Education Environment © (EDEE) is a multimedia staff development program for school leaders that establishes a comprehensive framework of best practices for managing staff performance or conduct concerns proactively, effectively and defensibly. The program provides participants with a host of practical examples and collaborative opportunities for infusing research-supported management strategies into their daily supervisory activities as they work to positively impact student achievement.

During each of EDEE’s three modules, participants learn about effective and defensible management techniques during attorney-led tutorials before practicing their new skills using over 30 professionally filmed re-enactments of actual disciplinary cases from across the country. Along the way, a variety of practical decision support tools such as the UpSlope Decision Support Rubric are introduced to help participants transform research into practice back home.

The following is an overview of each of the three modules offered during this two-day workshop:

Module #1: Setting Behavioral Expectations: 

For Superintendents: This workshop explores methods for modifying employee misconduct and underschoring expected behaviors in your district.
For Principals and Supervisors: This workshop provides video-based re-enactments of actual cases that model how to manage behavioral expectations using informal and formal actions.
For HR Directors: This workshop introduces a rubric - based method for (1) evaluating aggravating and mitigating circumstances during investigations and (2) selecting responses that are fair, reasonable, and consistent district - wide.

Module #2: Reinforcing Behavioral Expectations:

For Superintendents: This workshop blueprints the design of a searchable Employee Code of Conduct guide between written policies, working practices and employee behaviors.
For Principals and Supervisors: This workshop explores how a code of conduct guide inspires school leaders to justify their reasons for modifying employee behavior.
For HR Directors: This workshop details (1) the framework for the code, (2) the procedures that need to be in the code for supervisors to handle policy violations,and (3) how to implement the code.

Module #3: Upholding Behavioral Expectations:

For Superintendents: This workshop explains the principles of uniformity, knowing your role, solid documentation, the docket, timeliness, and mutual respect.
For Principals and Supervisors:
This workshop provides specific steps for using progressive discipline effectively, defensibly, and consistently.
For HR Directors:
This workshop presents how to (1) create clear disciplinary procedures, (2) structure documentations examples for disciplinary actions, and (3) compile and evaluate disciplinary data to reduce the potential for disciplinary bias.

Cancellation & Substitution Policy

Written cancellations submitted via email, fax or USPS mail will be accepted up to 14 business days prior to the event and a refund or invoice credit issued minus a $29 processing fee. After that time, you may send a substitute to attend in your place as refunds are not available for cancellations or no shows within this time period.  Session materials will be shared with those who must cancel and who do not receive a refund.
